American Red Cross (Genesee-Lapeer Chapter)

Who We Are

About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Survivors of disaster, patients needing lifesaving blood, members of the military and many more turn to the Red Cross every second of every day. Since volunteers constitute about 95 percent of the American Red Cross workforce, it is through your continuous participation and support that we are able to mobilize the world's largest humanitarian network.

About the Great Lakes Blood Services Region: We offer the community a chance to donate blood in our donor room located at the Genesee-Lapeer Chapter of the Red Cross in Flint as well as through area mobile blood drives. We also deliver blood to various locations, including hospitals that need it either on a regularly scheduled run or in emergency situations.

Prepared Is Protected Training
The Flint Red Cross is currently working with the City of Flint to provide free emergency preparedness training to the citizens of Flint.

We're looking to recruit 60 citizens who are active in their communities to participate in this project.

All participants will be trained in how to share preparedness education with their clients and coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors through the “Red Cross Ready” program.

They’ll receive free emergency preparedness manuals and outreach supplies - then go into our community to help educate others.

The goal is to reach 1,200 households within the City of Flint during 2014.

Our final training session is Saturday, October 25th from 1pm-5pm at the American Red Cross building, 1401 S. Grand Traverse St. in Flint.

If you or someone you know would like to be a part of this project, please email Shawntae Harris at [email protected] to register for the October 25th training.
