Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a Day ON, Not a Day Off for Volunteers

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 19!

For a lot of people it's a day off work or school. We hope you will make it a day on by volunteering for a few hours!

MLK said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?"

Well, what are you doing? Need a chance to jump in on a project that will make a difference? Check out these opportunities:

  • Baker College of Flint on Bristol Rd. is hosting a variety of hands-on projects including making paracord survival bracelets for military personnel, making no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus, and crocheting mats from plastic garbage bags to help the homeless. Jump in from 10am-3pm. Sign up here.
  • Davenport University on Miller Rd. in Flint is looking for 50 volunteers to assist in making paracord survival bracelets for military and emergency personnel. Jump in and help from 1-4pm. Sign up here.
  • Mott Community College has room for just 40 volunteers to help make 100 no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus. The event takes place from 10am-3pm. Register by or call 810-762-5623.
  • University of Michigan-Flint is hosting a variety of activities, including volunteer opportunities with area nonprofit organizations on MLK Day. Check out those opportunities here.

All minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Most of these projects are suitable for ages 16 and over.

See you on MLK Day!
